Semi Tow Truck Team Tows 4 Tractors at Once!

The Falzone semi tow truck team had a job they would never forget down in Mifflinville, PA, last month. One of our regular customers gave us a call asking for immediate assistance. They transport brand new vehicles from the manufacturer to various body companies or dealerships. On this particular day, our customer was transporting three trucks from the manufacturer to a dealership.

We’ve all played piggyback as children. Have you ever spotted a truck “piggybacking” other trucks on the road? Piggyback truck transport is the term used to describe a semi carrying up to 4 tractors on its back. The front of each semi truck is carefully mounted to the back of the preceding truck. Using this method allows up to 4 massive trucks to piggyback on the back of the original towing truck. Seeing a piggyback transport in person is definitely impressive!

Our customer was using the piggyback method to transport the three trucks when all of a sudden an issue with the truck’s air valve caused him to breakdown. Thankfully, the truck was still in Loves Travel Stop and not on the highway! Falzone’s semi tow truck team was on the scene within the hour.

When a truck carrying 3 stacked units weighing over 80,000 lb and measuring in at over 90 feet in length breaks down, you need an extremely skilled tow truck operator to assess the situation. The Falzone team arrived with a 50-ton wrecker and came to the conclusion that the most efficient way to transport the 4 trucks was to keep them together!

While they were able to easily hook onto the front axle of the front truck, they still had the air valve issue to contend with. As it was, the system would not be able to hold any air pressure. Thankfully, working in heavy duty towing means that you need to be a skilled problem solver! The team simply bypassed the broken air valve and was able to supply air to the unit. Included the heavy wrecker, convoy weighed over 150,000 lb and was over 140 ft long! Imagine seeing that on the road!

The semi tow truck team successfully towed all four trucks to a dealership in Schuylkill Haven. Fantastic work out there!
